Cool… and… cool!

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

I would like to take a moment to say that all y’all out there commenting or praying for me are some of the coolest people alive. And so, I wrote this pretty little song JUST for YOU:

Lalalalalalala,
You’re pretty cool, yes it’s true,
Lalalalalalalalala,
Pretty cool is spelled Y-O-U!

Now don’t you feel special? You had a song written about you! :D

God is good

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

God is good, we sing and shout it.
God is good, we celebrate.
God is good, no more we doubt it.
God is good, we know it’s true.

And when I think of His love for me,
My heart fills with praise
And I feel like dancing.
For in His heart there is room for me,
And I run with arms open wide.

Some of the greatest people on the net, part 2

Sunday, February 1st, 2004

Well, nomad inspired me to write another of these. You can see the full series (all two entries) by clicking “Appreciation” down beneath “Categorical Archive”

The internet is a collection of many thousands of computers all interlinked by phoneline, cable, satellite, and other various connections, with website addresses routed through DNS servers which direct data packets to information-storing computers known as “servers” which in reply send data back to the requesting computer via whatever route it happens upon. The computers receive the data as electronic signals and convert it by means too complicated for me to understand into a textual, graphical, or audio presentation on your monitors and speakers.

That is what the internet is. What the internet means is that people in different parts of the world can communicate with eachother in most any form they choose, from website presentations to e-mail to text messages to voice chats to video conferencing. Using this world-wide network people who otherwise would never even know of eachother’s existence can make connections just as real as anyone they met in person.

This post is about a few of said people, in no particular order. As always, no offence if you’re not on here, it’s mostly a matter of what I can think to write when I write it. So, with no further ado I now present the second installment of “Some of the greatest people on the net”

FahrmBoy:
Ho-hum, just another poster at MC. Probably a guy who works at a farm somewhere. Hmm, coming to Mysterium, eh. Oh, no? Ah well. Oh, wait, yes? Ok. Say, I wonder if he wants to stay in my brother’s and my hotel room and split the cost with us…

It was when I met him at Mysterium 2002 that I realized, dang, this guy’s cool. His sense of humor is awesome, and–what’s this? He’s not annoying! Always a good attribute in a person. Although he wasn’t at Mysterium a year earlier when we visited the Carlsbad caves, I saw a definate connection. Fahrmy is actually a lot like a cave. At first glance, there’s nothing strange about him. Take a better look and one finds he’s actually very deep and mysterious. Take a step closer and it’s quickly apparant that he’s completely batty.

One thing I really appreciate about Fahrmy is his view on friends. He realizes completely that a friend is a person you treat good, with respect and honesty, and that once you’re someone’s friend, you stay loyal. Altogether too many people act as though once someone does something they don’t like, that they can just scrap them and don’t have to care anymore. Fahrmy’s loyalty is, to put it simply, admirable.

75th Trombone:
In a world run amuck with people following the chaotic winds of how they feel at any given moment, 75th is a breath of fresh air. On his list of priorities, making people like him is considerably below doing what is right and what makes sense. While this makes him unpopular with some, it puts him up on a chart of his own with people who are just looking for a few cents of sense. I would say common sense, but, unfortunately, a mass majority of people lack it and make it far from being common.

In any event, while with most people I have to roll my eyes and shrug it off when certain topics are brought up, with 75th I can say my opinion and actually *gasp* agree with someone on what’s sense and what’s stupid.

Another thing about 75th that has benefitted me greatly is his aptitude at things computerly. Following his advice (and in many cases, his all too needed step-by-step instructions) my site has gone from a maelstrom of olde HTML to a quickly-editable stylesheeted wonderland of php and (even better) MovableType. Without his help, I would still be using Xanga and be looking desperately for a way to make comic panels without having to delete vector points appearing in other panels or doing panels individually and putting them together as static files. Now wouldn’t THAT be ugly.

wandering_nomad:
As was the case with Fahrmy, it wasn’t really until I met nomad that things started to click. After that fateful day in the Twin Cities airport when I saw the first episode of nomadLIVE, I realized, hey, this guy’s pretty cool.

Since then I’ve discovered that nomad is another of those rare instances where youthfulness and maturity (spiritual and otherwise) collide, yielding someone who’s actually fun to talk to, and at the same time knows what’s what. His openness about his faith in God, and his awareness of the power in faith and prayer are very reasurring, and help me to realize that the world isn’t all deteriorating into total immorality.

nomad has also been a great help with my struggle through emotional situations, namely the one the last two posts were about. He and Fahrmy together helped me to see that I’m not the only one who’s gone through this sort of thing in this sort of way, and for that, I’m very grateful.
